Social What?

This morning I attended the first SocialMediaBreakfastToledo . This cracks me up because of course social media is online. I do know that in-person meetings take place as a result of people meeting online, but I'm not sure how often that happens.

But anyway, I am glad the organizers of this event realized the need for people to connect and also learn in person. Two of my friends were involved: Julie Cantu, 360 Graphics and Michael Temple, Temple Development Company. Bravo goes to both.

I am trying to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can about all this stuff, Tweeter, Linkedin, Facebook and bunches of other stuff.

The word is that if you want to know all the points that were made and resources mentioned, you can go to Twitter. If I have this right (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am not!) the Twitter Hash Tag is #SBTOL. (correction: if should be #SMBTOL) (Well, I just tried to figure that out and failed.)

The next in-person meeting is May 1, location to be announced.

On a scale of 1 - 10, with ten being best, where do you rate your social media skills?

The hashtag is #smbtol. You were close! So glad you could make it! They can also join the discussion at http://smbtoledo.ning.com.

Thanks for the post!

I thought the breakfast was a great success. I got to meet two people, Victoria Kamm (@biztube247) and Allen Mireles (@allenmireles) in person who I had only previously talked to on twitter. I also talked to people in person at the breakfast that I am now following online.

It is not the be all end all in a business relationship, but it is a tool that:
1. Helps us to connect with geographically diverse potential clients.
2. Communicate with the generation that has grown up on the computer (my son will answer a text message from me faster than a voice mail!)
3. Can help keep the conversation going when you are unavailable. If you think about it the internet is accessible 24/7 you can post a message at 9 am, I may read it at midnight and respond. We don't have to be in the same place at the same time to talk.

Now a little shameless self promotion for my webinar series on social media:

Debby,
Thanks for attending our first Social Media Breakfast Toledo event! It is funny how getting together in person sparks more online conversations and chatting online creates the opportunity to meet new people offline that you never before knew existed. I've obviously jumped into Social Media with both feet, and I'm amazed at the number of cool people I've met online and am now friends with offline. Keep coming to SMB Toledo and you'll get Twitter figured out :-) Julie

Debby If I can do it you will be a champion at it. I enjoyed the event and plan on attending in the future.

I would also like to thank you again for your CN program as it made me more aware of things I should be doing to improve my business and myself.

But you still intimidate me....in a good way....lol
